Introducing the Poetry of

Lily Crawford

Lily's poetry evidences a maturity beyond her years. Her earliest years were spent in Bangkok, Thailand, where her father was stationed in the Army working with the Defense Intelligence Agency.  Her mother is a Thai native. Stew Woodruff, a friend of the family and who worked with the CIA's so-called "Secret War" in Laos, made the photographs which accompany Lily's natural and heart-felt poems.

APRIL'S FOOL - by Lily Crawford

The salty spray of ocean waves

Greet her as she patters to the water's edge.

The great Pacific blue beckons her to step in,

And with tiny baby feet she steps on the edge of eternity.

Her life is just beginning and tomorrow is another day.

Her mysterious beauty lies in her eyes

Whose gaze can penetrate even the hardest of hearts.

She sees all and knows little of the world around her,

But if ever she looked intently upon you, your life was hers.

For she reflects the history of time

In the mirrors of sparkling brown pools.

Then, turning away, she leaves without a word.

What remains is an image of sadness

For she saw through you

To an April's fool.
